International Drain Meet

with 9 comments

January 2011

The International Drain Meet was a celebration of drainors, and a great chance to meet parties from other areas that we haven’t taken the opportunity to acquaint ourselves with yet. Represented were  London, Manchester, North East England, Paris, Canada,  Brescia Underground and UE Kingz, and it was a pleasure to meet and spend time in The River Westbourne with all present.

Partake

The night started with the police questioning what we were doing 15 deep on a side street in Knightsbridge, all sporting waders or wellies. A fancy dress party, they were told and they drove off, after warning us they didn’t want to be fishing us out of any rivers later that evening. A curtain twitcher delayed proceedings and before too long, we were down in the massive entrance chamber with around 20 people already inside.

That’s a clock, not an orb.

Following a few hours of drinking, meeting and greeting, and an excellent speech by  Siolo,  we wandered 15 strong down The Egg, eventually entering the Tyburn (quite literally, in my case) and emerging not far from Liz’s House. On returning to the park, we met those that stayed in the chamber as they emerged and then dispersed.

Celebrate

[The last week or so has seen a consolidation between groups in London. The hostilities that established themselves in 2010 as two groups pushed London open have been set aside under a refreshing new idea that we work together. London has several jewels left in it’s crown and between us, we can crack them.]

Biiiiig DRAYNES!

Big props to Otter for arranging, and also those that travelled great distances to be there. There’s a lot of love in the draining community and it was great to share such an event together.

  5. […] We also seem to have finally melded the two top London crews at this meet through Siologen’s powers of healing oration (see below). By the end of the night, Jon Doe, the King of UK draining, conjured himself out of thin air in the middle of the party to the delight of everyone in attendance. It was, by all accounts, one of the best gatherings in London urban explorer history. A full write up can be found on Winch’s blog. […]
